Magnetic
Pigging
System
The
"Pathfinder" Magnetic
Pigging System, developed in the early 70s. in
order to monitor
pipeline pigs and accurately locate
them in the event that they become obstructed.
Please
note that
all the products
listed below can be customized to your
application.
The
system in
its basic form consists of
three elements:
Pipeline
Magnetic Pig:
StarTrak
Magnetic
pigs are designed as a
magnetic circuit with
sufficient field strength in order to saturate
the wall of the pipeline
through which it is traveling.
The
Magnetic
Pig is normally comprised
of a steel body
to which is attached a magnetic section, four
urethane cups or discs,
urethane
spacers, a nose plate designed to take shock,
and a rear locking
plate.
The
Magnetic
section may take the form
of the entire pig
body for smaller sized pigs (under 8"
diameter), or a collar (cup
spacer) on larger
diameter pigs.
The
magnetic
circuit is designed as two
(2) mild steel
plates with independent magnetic, Neodymium
Iron Boron with an energy
factor
of 45M G/Oe, modules around the centerline of
the pig, designed to
guide
the magnetic flux through the pipe wall.
We
also design
magnetic circuits for
most other pipeline
pigs.
The
magnetic
circuit may also be used in
cast urethane
pigs, polly pigs or spherical pigs.
Pig
passage indicators
The
station
magnetometers, or statics,
are remote field
passage indicators which allow the operators
to monitor
"Pathfinder"
pigs through sections of line. Now
available with Orbcomm
Satellite Monitoring, PC desktop / mobile
monitoring system.

The
Port-A-Sig
a specially designed
station magnetometer
used to monitor magnetic pigs in above ground
sections, and during
launch
and receive.

Gradiometer -
search
instrument
This
instrument provides a very
essential part of the
total system, it is used to locate the
position of the pig should it
become
obstructed during operations.
The
Gradiometer may take the form
of
either a hand held
device, or a "fish" for offshore
locations.
These
units can also be used in
conjunction with an R.O.V.
or an air bourne vehicle.
